Pick your regions

The game search screen lets you tick which regional servers you're willing to join. Untick the far-away ones and your ball will immediately feel more responsive.

  • Choose the regions closest to you. Ticking everything gets you into games faster and plays worse.
  • If a region feels bad on one day, untick it and try the neighbouring one.

What rubber-banding actually is

Your browser predicts where your ball is going. When the server disagrees, your ball is corrected โ€” that snap backwards is the correction, not a bug in your steering.

Where are the servers?

TagPro runs a cluster of regional servers, and the game search screen groups them by region. The exact list changes over time โ€” what you tick on the search screen is always the source of truth โ€” but the regions are broadly these:

Pick the region whose description matches where you physically are. Distance is the single biggest factor in how your ball feels.

Can a VPN help?

Sometimes, yes. A VPN cannot beat physics โ€” it will never make a server on another continent feel local โ€” but it can fix a bad route, which is a real and common cause of lag.

Your traffic doesn't travel in a straight line. Some home ISPs hand your packets off through congested or roundabout paths, so a server 300 miles away behaves like one 3,000 miles away. Connecting through a VPN endpoint near the server region can hand your traffic to a cleaner backbone route and cut both delay and jitter.

When a VPN is worth trying

  • Your nearest region feels worse than a region further away โ€” a classic sign of a bad route.
  • Ping is acceptable but unstable: you rubber-band in bursts rather than constantly.
  • Your ISP is known for congested peering, or your connection degrades at peak evening hours.
  • You're travelling and every listed region is far from you โ€” a VPN endpoint near your home region can still beat the local options.

When a VPN will make it worse

  • You already get a clean, stable connection to a nearby region. Adding a hop only adds delay.
  • The VPN endpoint is further from the server than you are.
  • You're on a free or heavily oversubscribed VPN โ€” those add jitter, which hurts TagPro more than raw ping does.

How to test it properly

  1. Play a few games with the VPN off, ticking only your nearest region, and note how it feels.
  2. Choose a VPN endpoint in the same city or region as the server you want to play on โ€” not just the same country.
  3. Play the same region again with the VPN on and compare. Judge steering responsiveness and rubber-banding, not the ping number alone.
  4. Keep whichever setup felt steadier, and re-test occasionally โ€” routes change.

One caveat: a VPN changes where you appear to connect from, so you may be matched into a different regional community than usual. That's a normal side effect, not a problem.

Reduce delay on your end

  • Use a wired connection if you can. Wi-Fi jitter shows up as inconsistent steering.
  • Close other tabs and downloads. TagPro is light, but a saturated connection isn't.
  • Keep the tab focused and visible. Background tabs get throttled by the browser.
  • Try another browser if performance is unusually bad โ€” GPU and compositing behaviour differs.

Is it lag or is it you?

Momentum makes clean play feel laggy while you're learning: you overshoot, you slide into walls, you arrive too fast to turn. If the ball responds instantly but ends up somewhere you didn't intend, that's physics, not latency.
