At any moment a TagPro game is in one of four states, and each one has a correct default: reset, you hold their flag, they hold yours, or both flags are out.

Both flags home (reset)
- Attackers move up together — nobody grabs alone.
- Defenders take the power-ups near their base and waste dangerous boosts.
- This is the calmest state and the best time to type anything you need to say.
You have their flag
- Your carrier's job is to survive, not to be brave. Take the safe route.
- The second attacker gets ahead of the carrier and blocks the chasers.
- Someone sits on re at the enemy flag tile so the pressure survives your carrier's death.
- Defense stays home. Losing your flag now cancels the capture entirely.
They have your flag
- Contain the carrier, don't lunge. Chasing properly →
- Don't bother grabbing their flag to score — you can't capture with your flag out. Grab it to deny them the reset instead.
- Cut the angle toward their base rather than following their trail.
Both flags out
- Neither team can score. Whoever gets their flag back first is suddenly a capture away.
- Prioritise the return over your own carrier's escape.
- A kiss — deliberately colliding as both carriers — resets both flags. Use it when their position is better than yours.
Endgame
- Ahead with the clock running down: hold the flag out of play rather than forcing a risky cap. Don't boat — refusing an available capture is against the rules.
- Behind: everyone pushes. A reset with seconds left is worth less than a desperate grab.
